Four Important Considerations In Selecting A Wedding Photographer

Selection of the wedding photographer is almost as important as selecting that perfect bridal gown.  Your wedding photographer will capture the magic of your special day and commit the memories to images which will be shown to future generations of family and non-family members alike.  Therefore, in selecting your wedding photographer it is important to keep in mind four critical considerations.

Interviewing

It is central to go through an interview process when selecting the wedding photographer.  A minimum of two wedding photographers should be interviewed.  Each of the candidates should be asked a series of questions that will reflect their knowledge, experience, training and their ability to work with you in photographing this once-in-a-lifetime event.  In addition inquire about any credentials or degrees that they may have in photography.

Also, ask for samples of weddings that they have photographed and look at the quality of the finished product.  Attention should be given to judging the creativity of the wedding photographer in capturing the uniqueness of that wedding, etc.  Above all, go with your intuition and ask yourself if you are comfortable in working with this wedding photographer to photographically record this onetime event?

Reputation

Research the wedding photographer’s reputation and their work.  The results can be a key indicator of their ability to produce quality results.   If they are affiliated with a studio check out their business practices and inquire about the customer's satisfaction with their product.

The best source to explore their credentials and customer service is to have the wedding photographer provide a list of references and customers, check with the Better Business Bureau and conduct an online search for any positive or negative feedback.  Another key indicator of their success is their number of successful years in the business.

The Product

In looking through the sample provided by the wedding photographer it is important to note how the wedding album is compiled.  The quality of the album is certainly a reflection on the professionalism and care provided by the wedding photographer.  Does the album look sloppy or has care been taken to safeguard the memories of the day?  Have the photos been treated with a protective covering?  Does the wedding photographer have a studio that allows for possible touchups of the photos to be accomplished?

The Cost

Professional photography done by a professional wedding photographer is going to be an expensive investment.  In finalizing your agreement with the wedding photographer make sure that these costs are completely transparent and that you know exactly what you are receiving in return for fees paid.

Remember, when planning for your wedding, budgeting is always a key element.  However, this wedding day is unique and will never be relived exactly the same way.  A wedding photographer will be able to capture the memories, joy and experiences of that special day.  Therefore, make sure that the wedding budget for photography is more than sufficient.
